Understand the human skeleton bones with Chest Bone Anatomy


            The chest, also known as the thorax, is a very significant part of the human body. In this chest region, organs essential to survival, such as the lungs, heart, and arteries, are located. The human body has created a strong system of defense to protect the chest region The human skeleton bones are one of the top defenses of the body.

A relatively long bone known as the sternum is also found in the thorax. All 25 of these bones play vital roles in protecting the organs of the chest, such as the lungs and heart.   The twenty four ribs are curvy bones that form a cage across the chest. These bones protect the heart and lungs and also expand to allow for breathing. While the ribs form a cage around the vital organs, the sternum is found in the middle of chest.

            Without these chest bones, human existence would be greatly compromised. It would be very easy to damage organs such as the heart or lungs. Since evolution drives organisms to survive, humans have evolved to develop these thorax bones to protect the lungs and heart. The chest bones account for a total of 25 bones out of the 206 bones in the human skeleton.
